A new survey by global recruitment firm Robert Walters has found that 70% of Australian professionals are either working or considering taking on a second job to manage rising living expenses.
The study, which surveyed 2,000 individuals, revealed that 90% worry their main income won’t be enough to cover yearly costs. This financial pressure is pushing many to seek side hustles or alternative income sources.
Interestingly, 54% of respondents are also thinking about moving interstate in search of better salaries and more affordable lifestyles.
The dissatisfaction with current pay is widespread, with 90% in NSW, 84% in Victoria, 83% in Queensland, and 80% in Western Australia saying their earnings aren't keeping up with the cost of living.
Shay Peters, CEO of Robert Walters Australia and New Zealand, warns that this trend should be a “wake-up call” for employers to review their compensation strategies.
